One of the biggest debates in leadership involves the one between leaders are born vs leaders being made. I believe that leadership is innate, while the tools needed to be successful are made. Honesty, commu...

Back To School!

It is hard to be in the field of education and not think about this time of year as being “back to school” time. Across the country, millions of elementary and secondary students are returning to school. Here at Bachman Academy, we are preparing to welcome incoming students and soon to be graduates for the 2015-16 school year. I have been either a student in some educational setting, or working in a school, every fall for 25 years, so I am very tuned in to the rhythm of the academic year. Everything from the ritual purchasing of back-to-school supplies, to lugging cartons of things into a dorm room, to new back-to-school clothes. Fall is the time of year when parents, students, and teachers all attempt to get back “into the grind.” It’s when bedtimes are renegotiated, school shoes are purchased, and travel arrangements are made. As you begin making arrangements for...
